The Rundown: Wolverine is recruited for a dangerous mission that will pit him against some old foes.

In the wake of Asteroid M crashing into the Earth, most of North America is without power. Nick Fury takes the remaining SHIELD fleet to the Savage Land to recruit Wolverine to take on a dangerous mission in Russia to track down a device that could save the world.

Wolverine discovers he will not be going alone when Captain America and the Winter Soldier join him on the mission. A mission they will all quickly discover is an ambush as Wolverine finds himself facing off against some old enemies and someone he once trusted as a friend.

The Story: Hickman crafts a beautifully brutal and dark story in this first issue. I really like the circumstances that bring Wolverine into this story and the violent, dark nature of the plot. There are great themes throughout the story including betrayal and I am excited to see how far Hickman is willing to push the story and the characters within it. There are some truly shocking moments within the story and I look forward to seeing where this story goes next.

The Art: The main reason I picked up this issue was my love of the art of Greg Capullo and I was not disappointed. Every page is filled with gorgeous detail and the art doesn’t shy away from the savage brutality and violence of the story. In fact, it enhances those moments visually with art that is visceral and beautiful.
